An Indian-Canadian wedding that turned into one big party in Goa

An Indian-Canadian couple during their wedding in Goa

If you’ve been a part of the last 2 days of this celebration and had a good time, that was all Priya. She planned and chose everything from transportation to every dinner you’ve had with us. I was there behind her to support her and pick up any pieces if needed as I will continue to do for the rest of our lives” - Nick to their guests at the Reception

Priya and Nick were Meragi’s first Goa clients. And it goes without saying, all firsts are extremely special and this was no different.

Nick was from Canada, Priya from Mumbai. Priya had shifted to Canada in 2019 and started dating Nick in October 2019. By December 2019, right before Christmas, Priya had been invited by Nick's mother for dinner.

For Nick, he knew from the very beginning. For Priya, she felt blessed to have found a family within 4 months of her shifting into a new country who supported her and took care of her.

And that was that. They got married in Canada with a small group of family and friends, in an intimate ceremony.

But what about all the other family and friends scattered all around the world, especially in India?

Well, Priya and Nick had one grand plan for that and Meragi was honoured to have played a part in it.

Priya had reached out to us saying that she wants Meragi to take care of everything so that the families can have fun without any added pressure.

Together with Priya, we planned the extravaganza over a span of a year. Here’s a sneak peek at a wedding that was fun, romantic, and all heart.

Sangeet

Nick's sister was very confident about all the performances from the Groom's side; "Oh we've been practising for over 2 days now, I think it'll show. I'm sure we'll do great!"

And boy, did they set the dance floor on fire!

Nick and Priya's wedding hashtag #Alexandodkar glowed on the stage backdrop as the couple stole everyone's heart with their dance skills and cute expressions.

Haldi

"Priya looks like a princess! Every time I see one of her outfits and think this is the best one, the next turns out to be even more gorgeous!"

"I just can't wait to take a lot of turmeric and go 'whoop' across their faces" quips Nick and Priya's friends from Canada as they get ready for the festivities on the morning of their wedding day.

On a crisp, sunny morning in Goa, Nick and Priya were covered in turmeric and marigold petals, surrounded by smiling faces, and they were also having the time of their lives.

Wedding

"My dad was telling me last night that he couldn't have found a better son-in-law even if he tried. Nick is just amazing and humble and kind", Priya tells us in between getting ready for her traditional Marathi wedding.

Baaraat as a part of a wedding, is a much-awaited and well-known custom in India.

Not so much in Canada.

But once the Meragi team told Nick's side of the family about 'baaraat' and showed them some popular dance moves, there was no stopping them.

Vibrant and super fun, Nick's baaraat could've given any traditional Indian baaraat a run for their money. Destination wedding? Get a free consultation.

The wedding ceremony took place on the open terrace of the Hilton Goa resort.

Saying it was magical doesn’t even begin to do it justice.

These are the moments and people that ignite a spark of hope and longing—not just for a soulmate, but for a wedding that wraps everyone around in the warmth of shared love.

The groom's father had one piece of advice for the newlyweds and a secret sauce just for his son.

To the couple, he said, "Talk to each other about absolutely everything. Talk about the good, but also talk about the bad."

And to Nick, "Just do whatever Priya tells you to. It has worked wonderfully for me all these years", as Nick's mother burst into laughter.

Reception

The reception was a beautiful coming together of all the grand festivities. Everyone shared stories, and wishes for the couple, and just revelled in the gratitude and love that two families from two ends of the world had managed to bring into that one room.

Nick ended his speech that night with,

"Priya would initially be so taken aback because of how often people there say sorry and thank you. But now I know why. It's because when people in India say those 2 things, they mean it every time. People think us Canadians are nice people. I think Indians are wonderfully kind people."...

...and our hearts were full.

At Meragi, making wedding dreams come true is more than just what we do—it’s what we love. Every wedding we’re part of feels like a privilege, and we’re deeply grateful to witness and contribute to such beautiful moments of love, joy, and togetherness.

It’s a constant reminder of how lucky we are to share in these life-changing celebrations.
